Eleven months ago, Detroit singer-songwriter Rowan Niemisto released his debut work, the Inertia EP, sounding like Tom Misch with the heat turned up or Astronomyy with the beats turned down, it was an impressive first offering that flew under the radar for many. Since that release, it appears Niemisto has been busy during the stint of online silence, first reappearing an eerie electronic clad single ‘Proper Life’ and now he’s shaking off the chill with soulful new song ‘Take My Time’. Returning to the warm, cosy lo-fi finish of his EP, Niemisto swoons in with sensual vocals “I don’t mind it, baby, I got nowhere to be”, backed by simple downtempo percussion, bluesy guitar riffs, delicate keys. The steady tempo and Niemisto’s own honest lyricism conveys the singer’s patience as he waits for a former lover to come back. This gorgeous modern soul number is hopeful in the only way heartbreak can be.  - HT
